Alberto Simón aka DESEDEND

In the dynamic realm of electronic music, Alberto Simón, aka DESEDEND, emerges as a genuine force, his journey reflecting a deep-rooted connection to the rhythms that define his craft. At the age of 16, amidst burgeoning curiosity, Simón found himself drawn to the beats of Tech-House, setting the stage for a lifelong love affair with electronic soundscapes. Influenced by the eclectic sounds of legendary bands like Pink Floyd, Muse, and Radiohead, as well as the firsthand wisdom imparted by his uncle, a seasoned DJ from Zaragoza, Simón’s musical journey began to take shape. These early influences, coupled with his own innate passion for exploration, laid the foundation for a distinctive sonic identity that would come to define his artistic trajectory.

For Simón, electronic music wasn’t merely a hobby or a fleeting interest; it became an integral part of his being—a true passion that he wholeheartedly embraced. From the intimate confines of local clubs to the pivotal moments spent under the mentorship of esteemed figures like Lorenzo Navarro, he immersed himself fully in the pursuit of mastering his craft. Each beat, each rhythm, became not just a sound but a reflection of his own journey—a journey marked by dedication, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity. Classic Entourage Magazine: How did your journey into music begin, and at what point did you realize your passion for electronic music, particularly Techno and Hard-Techno?

DESEDEND: My first memories about music are my father playing Pinkfloyd, Muse, Radiohead. As a kid I also learned to play guitar and piano, I could say my journey started when I was a kid, but the electronic music appeared in my life when I was 16 when I discovered Tech-House with friends, years later I started meeting techno music producers and they showed me Techno the proper way.

CE Mag: Can you share a memorable experience from your early days working in clubs, where you discovered the DJ booths and started your training with Lorenzo Navarro?

DESEDEND: The experience that I have engraved in my mind is when people starts coming inside the club, this is something incredible in every party or club, how the night escalates, but an experience I remember from the early days is when one friend let me use his DJ controller for 10 minutes in his house, that day I knew I wanted to be a DJ cause the way I felt the music.

CE Mag: Your uncle, a former DJ from Zaragoza, played a significant role in teaching you how to mix. How did his guidance influence your approach to DJing, and what valuable lessons did you learn from him?

DESEDEND: My uncle taught me that the DJ is not someone that only plays music, so he showed me from minute one that I had to express myself on the sets. The best lesson I had from him is that you have to be yourself when you play and make people dance.

CE Mag: Your sessions are known for adapting to the event and collaborating with other DJs while maintaining your personal style. How do you strike a balance between flexibility and maintaining your unique musical identity?

DESEDEND: I find the balance approaching the previous DJ or the next and talk with them about his ideas and actual music, then I prepare the songs of my set, then when I search music If I don’t feel the song fits with my personality, I discard it.

CE Mag: In your sets, you incorporate various genres such as Techno, Hard-Groove, Hard-Techno, and Trance. How do you approach the process of selecting tracks for your performances, and what criteria do you use to curate a cohesive and dynamic set?

DESEDEND: I used to approach music all the ways I can, I love to listen to different genres. But when it comes to my music set selection, I focus on volume, sounds and the energy of the song. I think the most cohesive mixes are improvised by the moment of the night.

CE Mag: Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, and other renowned artists have influenced you in the art of mixing. Can you share a specific instance where listening to one of their sets inspired you and contributed to your growth as a DJ and producer?

DESEDEND: Yes, I have two days, one of them in Amsterdam in Het Sieraad on a 3h Sven Väth set. This day I realized what my uncle told me, Sven made the night feel like the tide of the sea making people dance harder or softer. The other day was on Neopop in Viana do Castelo with Richie Hawtin and others. The next day I got muscle aches for dancing at 12h straight. These two days are my guide in my days as a DJ.

CE Mag: You’ve performed in notable venues such as Reset Club, Sala López, and Bembe Club. Can you highlight a particularly memorable performance or event that stands out in your career so far?

DESEDEND: For me every party is memorable. I used to enjoy every minute and every time I played like the first, for me every chance is another step in my career. Anytime I play in a club or spot where another artist has performed, it is an honour for me to play in the same place.

CE Mag: As the Resident DJ and Owner of “Warped Society,” an events promoter for Hard-Techno in Spain, how do you envision the future of the Hard-Techno scene, and what goals do you have for the growth of your events?

DESEDEND: I think the scene is in a very good moment and we have to squeeze the most out of it at the moment. But like every bubble it can blow so let see what happens I think a change would happen similar to other musical times. As Warped Society promoter I think we have to evolve as the music does and the society.

CE Mag: Collaborating with artists like David Meiser, Lorenzo Navarro, and Carlos Perez, among others, must have brought unique experiences. Can you share a memorable collaboration or a valuable lesson you’ve learned from working with other artists?

DESEDEND: They are huge professionals, seeing how they play is the most valuable lesson, the way they mix, the momentum, musical selection, vibe, attitude… The best lesson I realized is that a DJ has to be a beast inside and out of the booth.

CE Mag: Beyond DJing, are there any upcoming projects, releases, or plans that you’d like to share with your fans? How do you see your musical journey evolving in the coming years?

DESEDEND: I have some projects in Ableton almost ready to come out, Techno mainly but I have other genres as well, I’ll also release another A.k.a’s for different music projects. I want to have as many collaborations as possible and move forward in my career, I have too much desire to know what will happen.
