
Tributes are pouring in for the larger-than-life DJ named Recycled Beats as news of his death spread online this week. Philadelphia‘s own DJ and Producer, Recycled Beats aka Black Ray to his friends, stood as a beacon in the Tech House and Techno movement within the Philadelphia and Tri-state area. With his signature blend of dark, edgy, and hypnotic sounds, he commanded dancefloors everywhere he went.
Embarking on his DJ journey at just 18, Recycled Beats swiftly made waves in the PA Hard Dance and Techno scene. His electrifying sets graced legendary venues like Tribecca, Lit Ultrabar, Roxy, and 3232, as well as underground raves, igniting a fervent following in the scene.
It was during the summer of 2005 that Recycled Beats discovered his affinity for House and Tech House, inspired by witnessing icons like Victor Calderone, Carl Cox, Jonathan Peters, and Danny Tenaglia mesmerize audiences in New York’s grandest arenas. From that moment, his path was clear, and he delved into production, releasing his inaugural EP on Nervous Records in March 2011.
Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and improvement, Recycled Beats embarked on formal education in Musical Technology in June 2011, refining his prowess in musical production. With each release, he cemented his reputation, as one of the top Techno DJs in the scene.
Collaborating with esteemed artists like Jan Van Lier, Adrian Oblanca, Stanny Abram, Peppelino, and Skober, Recycled Beats expanded his sonic palette, earning accolades from industry titans. As his collaborations and remixes garnered support from leading DJs and producers, Recycled Beats’ trajectory was set ablaze, illuminating a promising future for the rising star.
